SUMPs-Up Innovation Pilot Pool

By News Editor / Updated: 17 Mar 2017

The CIVITAS SUMPs-Up project is launching a first call for applications to join its Innovation Pilot Pool (IPP) on 21 March 2017. The deadline for applications is 21 April 2017.

The IPP is a select group of transport and urban mobility planning practitioners who will develop innovative tools and services to help Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) development in European cities.

The objective of the IPP is to select a total of 100 planning authorities to provide technical services in applying SUMP approaches, tools and methodologies in transport planning practice in real conditions at the local and regional levels.

The IPP will enable the creation of a community of transport professionals who, with SUMPs-Up funding and through participating in its learning activities – known as Urban Learning Alliances (ULAs) - will introduce 14 innovative measures in 7 partner cities on planning processes, and financing and implementation.

The selection of IPP members will be made through a series of calls for applications. CIVITAS SUMPs-Up will publish:

  • Three annual calls to recruit a total of 90 planning authorities for technical services
  • One call to recruit a core group of 10 planning authorities for in-depth SUMP development

The 90 selected authorities will participate in one ULA that will launch in the respective year of the call. The 10 authorities selected at once through the call for in-depth SUMP development will have the opportunity to take part in multiple and/or all five ULA modules over three years, from 2017 to 2019.

Who can apply?

The following authorities may apply for the IPP:

  • Any urban authority of a local administrative unit active in sustainable transport planning established in an EU Member State according to the degree of urbanisation as city, town or suburb
  • Any association or grouping of urban authorities of local administrative units active in sustainable transport planning established in an EU Member State This can include associations or groupings of public authorities, agencies and companies, NGOs and advocacy groups working in partnership in the same city or region.

Cities and planning authorities which are already partnering in SUMPs-Up or similar CIVITAS 2020 Initiatives are not eligible.
